Writing Prompt: The Treat Thief
PROMPT:
True Story (as reported by The Week Jr.): A truck carrying 400,00 KitKat bars was stolen! The truck was traveling across Eurpoe to deliver race car shaped candy bars as part of a Formula 1 Racing promotion. Your Job: Make up a story answering these questions: Who took the chocolate? Where? Why? Were they caught? Who was tasked with investigating this crime? How did Formula 1 and KitKat react?
TEACHER TIPS:
Encourage students to consider their POV character. Who is telling this story... the thief? The investigator? A race car driver? An outside narrator? This is a great time to remind students about 1st person vs. 3rd person story telling and why an author might choose one or the other.
